PAMPOEN FONTEIN FARM COTTAGES |
About us
The farm is owned by Gemma & Richard Carlsson, both of whom have a deep appreciation for nature and specifically the indigenous fynbos vegetation of the area. One of the farm's business activities involves growing and selling proteas. Pampoen Fotein Farm is a hideout sanctuary in the Cedarberg mountain. The farm has three fully equipped cottages for hire. They are all tastefully furnished and supplied with hand-embroidered bed linen, towels, wood, coffee, tea and soap. Every cottage has an indoor fireplace for winter (it snows on the farm from time to time) and an outside braai area. All you need to take is food and drink.
Another, more recent venture, is the development of a nursery for indigenous plant species. See our nursery. Please take good care of this precious environment and we hope you enjoy your stay.
On Pampoen Fontein Farm, nestled in the heights of the Cedarberg mountains, just two hours drive from Cape Town and 900m above sea level, we have a comfortable cottage waiting for you. You will have over 400 hectares of fynbos to yourself. Look down across the Swartland to Table Mountain, 120 kilometres Southeast, as the eagle flies, or West, across the Olifants River Valley to the panoramic Kouebokkeveld range. Walk the mountain paths, climb the peaks, fish or canoe, go tandem paragliding, explore by mountain bike or 4x4.
Pampoen Fontein Farm is home to many of the 3500 fynbos species found in the area, including the rare apricot coloured Disa, several unusual species of Protea and a wide variety of Erica and Restios.
For bird-watchers, you won't be disappointed as the birdlife is prolific.
Mammals include:
klipspringer, grysbok, herds of grey rhebok, the Cape fox, and the leopard and if you need more space, the Groot Winterhoek Wilderness Area is just a few kilometres down the road.
If you like flying, Porterville is the paragliding and hanggliding Mecca of South Africa and we host the annual SA hanggliding and paragliding championships. |
